T.G.I. Friday’s Mozzarella Snack Sticks

A new arrival to our assortment of vending machine snacks, Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks are my newest favorite for a cheesy snack.

The package contains Friday’s familiar logo and red/white color scheme with a plate-full of snack sticks front and center. This did make me wonder who takes their vending machine snacks and neatly arranges them on a platter, but I suppose that is neither here nor there. This package boasts “Original Flavor”, but upon searching the TGI Friday’s website, it could have just as easily read “Only Flavor”. Is it really necessary to call something “original” until something comes along that it from which it must be distinguished? Once again, I get hung up on an unimportant yet puzzling question – I’ll move on.

Upon opening the package, I was met with a strong odor, much the way one does when opening a package of Doritos or Bugles. The snack sticks are a little darker than the package made them look, with a golden brown color. But as with any food product, all that I have said until now really doesn’t matter in comparison with how it tastes – and Friday’s does not let us down.

To be fair, I must say that theirs is not an original idea for a product (though it is still the ‘original’ flavor). What I bought was basically a sack of cheese puffs. But as far as cheese puffs go, these are the best. I know, I know, you’re out there thinking, “cheese puffs are cheese puffs”. But let me tell you, my friend, that these ain’t your mama’s cheese doodles. The mozzarella flavoring makes the difference. What flavor cheese are ordinary cheese puffs made from, anyways? Who knows.

The only drawbacks are that you get that familiar what I’ve come to call “Doritos breath” after you eat them, so they are not recommended snacking for that first date. But if you’re busting out the cheese doodles on your first date, you’ve got bigger problems to deal with that I won’t even touch here. Also, after doing some simple math, taking the weight of the package contents and the nutrition information, these things are essentially 43% and 57% air.

Okay, I think I’ve rambled on long enough about cheese puffs. They’re pretty good, but, again, they’re cheese puffs. I could make an argument for a larger portion of snack sticks in the package, but no amount of cheese puffs are going to fill you up, so I’m not sure what a proper amount would be. The bottom line is, if you have a hankerin’ for cheese puffs and these are among the options and are comparably priced – go for it.
